Slubice - Kick-off-meeting - June, 2005
On 4-7 June 2005, the implementation of the transnational project INTERREG III B “Baltic Culture and Tourism Route Fortresses” (BFR) was launched. The first partner meeting (Kick-off-meeting) was held in the European University in the City of Slubice-Frankfurt/Oder.

The opening speech was given by Dr. Andrzej Kunt, Mayor of the main project partner, the City of Kostrzyn (Poland). He noted that the transnational project will foster the new quality of transnational cooperation and will alter the approach towards fortresses, as well as reveal them as a tourist attraction in the tourism route of the Baltic Sea region. Mr. Hartmut Röder (Germany), coordinator and initiator of the BFR Project, familiarised the participants of the project with the structure, main tasks and organisation of the project. The potential of this project is substantially increased by the cooperation between the scientific institutions (Brain-Pool), public organisations and museums taking care of the forts heritage (Fort-Pool).

The main tasks of BFR are divided among 4 working groups (WP1-WP4), which, upon the completion of the project implementation, will have to produce the basic tourist “product” – Baltic Culture and Tourism Route Fortresses – as well as to create the transnational network of fortresses set up at the Baltic Sea.
